How to calculate playlist length

Plan the playlist before pressing play.

  1. 1Copy the playlist URL from YouTube and paste it above. A video URL containing a playlist ID also works.
  2. 2Select Calculate length to load every accessible playlist item and its duration.
  3. 3Compare the total, average video, and watch time at 1.25×, 1.5×, or 2× speed.

Playback-speed example

A six-hour playlist

SpeedWatch timeTime saved
Normal6h 00m
1.25×4h 48m1h 12m
1.5×4h 00m2h 00m
3h 00m3h 00m

Watch time equals total runtime divided by playback speed. Ads, pauses, and buffering are not included.

Measured versus listed

The result reports how many playlist items were measurable, not only how many YouTube says the playlist contains.

Current total

Playlists change. Recalculate after videos are added, removed, deleted, or made private.

Public data only

Private playlists and videos that require account permission cannot be measured by a public calculator.

YouTube playlist length FAQ

How totals are calculated, which videos count, and what faster playback changes.

Estimate channel watch hours

How is a YouTube playlist’s total length calculated?

Cutlark reads the duration of each accessible video currently returned for the playlist and adds those durations together. It also calculates the average video length and estimated watch time at faster playback speeds.

Are private, deleted, or unavailable videos included?

No. YouTube does not provide a usable duration for inaccessible items, so they cannot be included in the total. The result shows how many playlist items were measured so you can spot a difference.

Can I calculate the length of an unlisted playlist?

Usually, yes, when anyone with the playlist link can access it. Private playlists and videos that require account permission cannot be measured by a public tool.

How is watch time at 1.25x, 1.5x, or 2x calculated?

The total runtime is divided by the playback speed. A six-hour playlist takes about four hours at 1.5x and three hours at 2x, before pauses, ads, or other interruptions.

Does the playlist length include ads and breaks?

No. The calculation uses video durations only. Advertisements, pauses, buffering, intros you skip, and breaks between study sessions are not included.

Need the playlist ID instead?

Use the YouTube Playlist ID Finder, or create a precise viewing link with the Timestamp Link Generator.
